Why use Phonics...
There are over one half million words in the English language and the choice is to memorize each word or build a foundation for each child that is based on the letters and sounds of the alphabet. Once a child learns the alphabet with the sounds and the common spellings they have the tools to read any words whether they have seen them or not.
A SEVEN YEAR LONGITUDINAL STUDY by Rhona Johnston and Joyce Watsons repeatedly found that explicit systematic phonics instruction is the most effective way to teach children how to read. English has a complicated spelling system. It is important to teach letter sound mappings in a systematic way, beginning with simple letter sound rules and then moving onto more complex associations.
Dezphonics starts with the sounds of the alphabet and continues to digraphs and beyond. Effective phonics instruction is important because letter-sound knowledge is the foundation needed to build up reading and writing abilities.
Dezphonics students become fluent readers with greater comprehension. The average student entering kindergarten knows 14 letters of the alphabet. Dezphonics students know the complete alphabet, 120 site words and can read 45 words per minute.
